Meet the Crew
Cariboo Stock Dogs is pleased to announce that Ed Wiebe has agreed to judge both our trials this year. Ed is a local rancher and uses stock dogs regularly on the farm. Ed has been involved with stock dogs most of his life. In 1991, he became more serious about learning and competed in both sheep and cow trials. His hunger for knowledge and his skills grew. This led to an expansion of trialing across the provinces and into the U.S. Ed has put on a few clinics and demonstrations in Canada and abroad. His calm, quiet demeanor and experience makes him a great stockman, clinician and judge.Â
This is the second year that we have had our fabulous photographer, Shelley Hoffmann. Shelley is an avid photographer whose skills have grown in leaps and bounds since we met her. Shelley comes from Smithers, BC but has called Hixon home these past 15 years. She and her husband, Dave have a combined 5 kids and 4 grandkids, all who are her most photographed subjects. Often, you will see Shelley's granddaughter Emma with camera in hand, assisting her grandmother. Shelley enjoys the outdoors, crafting, baking, her family and never goes anywhere without her camera. Check out Shelley's website.
Canterbury Farms
Sean and Laurie Rodgers own Canterbury Farms and have been sheep farming in the Vanderhoof area for 24 years. Sean is originally from New Zealand and is a 4th generation sheep farmer.
The farm run 200 commercial Suffolk/Dorset ewes, with Polypay influence. The Polypay is a four-breed composite of Targhee, Rambouillet, Dorset and Finnish Landrace breeds. It is a medium-sized wool sheep (average mature ewe weight of 72 kg) with a smooth body free of excessive skin wrinkles on the neck and body and a poll head. Polypay sheep are noted for being a highly prolific maternal dual-purpose breed. Canterbury Farms lamb in 2 groups. 70 ewes lamb in January/February and the balance in May/June.
Sean and Laurie provided the sheep for Cariboo Stock Dogs first trial, the Wild & Woolly Indoor Arena Trial in May 2023. We had many compliments about the consistency and quality of the sheep.
Canterbury Farms has kindly offered to supply the sheep for 2024. If you are interested in learning more about their farm, you can email them at: canterburyfarm@uniserve.com
